My heart is heavy and goes out to ALL the families that have lost loved ones as a result of the violence that taken place here and abroad.
2 Chronicles 7:14-15
if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.
As a young child my mom would sit the three of us down around the tv to watch the Billy Graham crusades together. His crusades would usually broadcast on either a Friday and/or Saturday night and they were always prime time, so that meant that we would have to miss our favorite shows. I would always start out watching his crusades with much reluctance however, Rev. Graham had such a presence, charisma and a sense of sincerity about him that would not only capture the thousands upon thousands that would gather in the stadiums, parks, arenas and such but he would eventually capture my attention as well. I remember being in awe as I would see so many people leaving their seats and walk to the front to the stage/altar to pray with Rev Graham and gave their hearts to God.
When I would watch Rev. Billy Graham I saw someone who seemed liked he just wanted to sincerely win souls for Christ regardless of the ethnic nor the socio-economic background. So naturally I was excited when his son Franklin came on the scene. I assumed that he would follow in his father’s footsteps with the a similar charisma, presence, passion and strong convictions.
I have a step brother who taught me to listen to what people are NOT saying rather that what they were actually saying. So the other day as I was watching a video of Franklin Graham’s FB live event, what resonated the most was that I did not hear prayers nor empathy for the black lives that have been taken from our community. I heard prayers and empathy for the police officers that have lost their lives. I also heard a similar condescending tone as to the others who have made attempts to justify the killings of our black men and women by portraying them as thugs and criminals with a sense of entitlement. I sense an underlying tone of divisiveness.
As I continue to reflect on this video and everything that is occurring throughout the world today, especially here in the US, I can’t help but think that this underlying tone of racism that I have been picking up within the Body of Christ can also be tied into Trump’s success in securing the Republican nomination.
Is it a wonder then that we are where we are as a nation?
The divisiveness within the Body of Christ has to stop first before we can begin to usher in healing to our nation.
Answer lies in….
1. Humbling ourselves
2. Seeking God
3. Praying to God and
4. Turning from our wicked ways
Our wicked ways originates from fear on both sides
- Whites- afraid of losing their standing/control within this nation
- Blacks- afraid for our lives, the lives especially of our sons, brothers, fathers, husbands, boyfriends, uncles, cousins , nephews- who have always been targets ; however especially now.
God’s command to all of us is simply FEAR NOT!
Fear torments and robs of us all of our peace, strength , wisdom and enlightenment.
1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
God is the answer and has the answer to all of our problems, frustrations and challenges that we face today. However, fear blocks and blinds us to the answers and the insights that lie within us individually and collectively.
The enemy is not each other but it is satan himself who is working through fear. Where the spirit of the Lord is there is Liberty – true freedom comes first within before it can be experienced without!
There is also frustration on both sides.
That however, is where I see the similarities end…because among the poor as a whole- I also sense fear, despair, frustration and hopelessness.
There is hope!
God is admonishing us to wake up and put on strength. He is saying that we have been on this mountain ( mountain of fear, oppression, hopelessness, helplessness, poverty and despair) too long- it time to take action by gathering at the table after we have humbled ourselves, prayed, sought His face and turned from our wicked ways( mindsets and actions that stem out of fear).
God Redeems Jerusalem
Put on your strength, O Zion;
Put on your beautiful garments,
O Jerusalem, the holy city!
For the uncircumcised and the unclean
Shall no longer come to you.
Shake yourself from the dust, arise;
Sit down, O Jerusalem!
Loose yourself from the bonds of your neck,
O captive daughter of Zion!
For thus says the Lord:
“You have sold yourselves for nothing,
And you shall be redeemed without money.”
God indeed loves justice! Prayer is good however we as believers have to do our part- ” faith without works is dead”.
Each of us has a part of the answer to how best bring healing to our nation and abroad. Our individual purposes- i.e. our life’s assignments, gifts, calling are all crucial components to bring to the table as we work towards coming together as One Body In Christ and ushering forth to the nation and abroad. Jesus Himself prayed that God Himself would deliver us from the evil one, that we as believers and other believers that would come together as one as a result of being sanctified through truth.
I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.
Jesus Prays for All Believers
“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:
As stated earlier this week on a video that I posted – Apostle Fred K C Price did an excellent exhaustive teaching on this topic/ issue of Race, Religion and Racism in 1998 ( for 72 weeks) – well over 20 years ago and yet here we are – where God is having us to revisit this topic/issue within the Body of Christ.
So again, I invite you to join me on this journey of revisiting this issue, availing ourselves to be used by God to bring forth His healing.
“The Lord our God spoke to us in Horeb, saying: ‘You have dwelt long enough at this mountain. Turn and take your journey, and go to the mountains of the Amorites, to all the neighboring places in the plain, in the mountains and in the lowland, in the South and on the seacoast, to the land of the Canaanites and to Lebanon, as far as the great river, the River Euphrates. See, I have set the land before you; go in and possess the land which the Lord swore to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—to give to them and their descendants after them.’
Peace, love and blessings! 😘
