The Importance of Rightly Diving the Word of God..

I have heard many people ranging from leaders within the Body of Christ to lay people using the following scripture in the wrong context.

β€œBehold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues. You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.”

I attended a prayer breakfast in July which was attended by local church leaders and the speaker of the hour ( who also happened to be the host) stated her dismay at people who claim to be spiritual when they would say that they needed to pray about a matter before making a decision or to speak on certain matters. She alluded to the scripture above by saying that praying on stuff was not necessary because the Lord would tell us what to say at the time. For some reason that did not sit well with me at the time; however, I decided to let it go … and then…last week I had a taste for collard greens (cooked in ham hocks)  and cornbread! I managed to drag myself to the local supermarket in search of hopefully frozen collard greens ( I knew there was little to no chance of me finding fresh collards) and ended up in the aisle where I (with the assistance of another customer ) was able to locate canned collards. So as I’m standing there trying to decide which brand to purchase ( Sylvia’s versus Glory’s) another customer walked up and I asked him for his opinion. So during our conversation, he simply suggested asking God ” because he will tell you what to say even as you’re praying”. I knew he meant well, and that he probably heard either the same church leader or someone else take this same scripture out of context,  so I thanked him and kept it moving. However, that incident also bought the previous incident at the prayer breakfast into mind.
When Jesus was talking to His disciples at this particular point- He was giving them  ” a heads up” to the various types of persecutions that they were going to face as he sent them out into the world as ” sheeps within the midst of wolves”.  He was specifically instructing them in Matthew 10:19-20 to not worry about what to say at the time that they would be “delivered up” (taken into custody) before the councils  (court systems at the time) as a result of being persecuted for being a His disciple.

During that same prayer breakfast after initially being troubled by that  scripture being used out of context, I thought about the scripture found in Prov 3:4-5  that encourages us to actually indeed seek God’s wisdom in every situation; in doing so would He would then direct our paths. I sincerely believe that this was at the heart of the man at the supermarket as he was assisting me in making a very life altering decision involving my choice of collard greens!😜 I also believe that this is at the heart of many others who are correct in wanting to seek God’s ( aka ” heavenly wisdom James 3:13) wisdom in their everyday decisions.

Yes I do believe that God desires to be involved in every aspect of our lives – even including our choice of collards; however…

….herein lies yet another issue within the Body  of Christ.. many believers are  either being taught erroneously because their respective leaders may not be taking the time to rightly divide the Word of God (2Tim 2:15) and / or are not being taught at all. Not only is rightly dividing  the Word of God crucial, however the motivating factors should always be love for God and love for thy neighbor as well. Having those three factors consistently in place should go a long way towards the healing process within the Body of Christ and our nation!

2 Chronicles 7:14-15

if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.

Matthew 10:16-26

Persucutions Are Coming
β€œNow brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. When they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

β€œA disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household! Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.

The Voice of Your Brother’s Blood is STILL Crying Out to Me….

Let me just take a minute to preface this post with this one comment…

Not all police officers are bad, not all of them go out into the communities with the intent to kill, some of them actually are really committed to “protecting and serving”.

{let’s not talk about the color blue, nor the color black- let’s talk about the color red . Red is the color of the blood that runs through the veins of every black person that was unjustifiably killed while in police custody and/or hands of the police}.

Why are you angry and why has your countenance fallen?
I’m angry and my countenance has fallen because I’m wondering why…

…prayers are being sent up for the police officers as they police our community, yet I can’t help but wonder who’s praying for black men who are being targeted?

I recently did a post in which I raised the issue of the KKK’s infiltration into our society as a whole including the religion and justice system. I began to dig deeper, did more research and my findings substantiate my theory. For now let’s focus on their influence and infiltration within the justice system.

The FBI released a report in 2006 which focused on  the infiltration of white suprematist within the police departments. This report in addition to other historical investigative series conducted also by the FBI documents and highlights many incidences in where white supremacist law enforcement personnel has interfered in the investigation of several murders. This documentation can be dated to as far back as 1922.

So again, I can not help but wonder if this same type of interference is a major factor I n the many unsuccessful attempts of  Justice being done in the cases involving members of the law enforcement community as they pertain to the unjustifiable shootings of  blacks. One case in particular that comes to mind is the unsuccessful attempt to prosecute the officers involved in the death of Freddie Gray who died while in police custody in Baltimore, on April 12, 2015. State Attorney Marilyn Mosby was quoted as saying the following day in regards to investigation during a press conference she held on July 15, 2016 after dropping the charges of the remaining 4 officers involved in the case.

“What we realized very early on in this case was that police investigating police, whether they’re friends or merely their colleagues, was problematic,” Mosby said. A “reluctance and obvious bias was consistently exemplified β€” not by the entire Police Department, but by individuals within the Police Department, at every stage of the investigation.”

In Genesis 4 – the bible talks about Adam and Eve’s first two sons- Cain and Abel. Adam, Eve and their two sons could have justifiably been considered as ” the first family” during their time and in regards to mankind in general ( another topic for another day). Cain was the elder brother who tended and the worked the ground ( farmer) while Abel tended the sheep (herder). It came time for the two of them offer up their first fruits ( tithe and offering) unto God. God accepted Abel’s offering over Cain’s ( I strongly suspect it was matter of the heart and/or attitude behind the offering- ” God loves a cheerful giver”). So Cain became angry because he felt rejected , started an argument and killed his brother Abel as a result. God posed a question to Cain about the whereabouts of his brother Abel; Cain’s response was another question – ” am I my brother’s keeper?”
Cain and Abel were raised within a family of true believers. Adam was indeed ” a friend of God” who fellowshipped with God in the cool of the day on a daily basis in the Garden of Eden before Eve and the fall. Yet despite Adam’s relationship with God there was still dysfunction and contention in the family that resulted in Abel’s death.

“what have you done? the blood of your brother still cries from the ground”.

I strongly believe that ” the church” today still has similar dysfunctions and contentions  as well ; and that God is still posing the same question to those members of our “Body” today- I also strongly believe that the dysfunctions of racism and hatred within the ” Body of Christ” is at the heart of 2Chr7:14 – with the emphasis on “turn from our wicked ways”, although racism and hatred are not the only wickedness that the Lord may be alluding to- however I believe it’s right on top!

Jesus Himself gives us two commands:- to love God with our whole hearts and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Those of us who truly love the Lord cannot stay silent when it comes to holding those that are responsible for the unjust killings of our neighbors accountable. We must remain proactive in seeking justice on their behalf.
Holding community meetings between the faith community , community activists and the police – stating that ” it’s not us versus them” is not enough. While we’re sitting superficially , the blood of black men and women is still speaking and crying from the ground!

Genesis 4:9
Then the Lord said to Cain, β€œWhere is Abel your brother?”

He said, β€œI do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”

Yes, I am! Are you?

Genesis 4:10-16
And He said, β€œWhat have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground.

Their Blood Still Cries!
