So I am home, chillin , relaxin -” easy like Sunday morning”- and I ” stumble” on this wonderful eye opening, enlightening, refreshing, transformatative documentary that focuses on an interfaith ministry at NYU. This ministry was birthed out an alliance that grew into a close friendship between an Imam and a Rabbi. To say that the whole story pertaining to these two men , their respective families , the students that they work with , and their work /ministry as a whole touched me deeply is an understatement at best.
I could try to attempt to describe the documentary and the ministry in greater detail , however , I choose not to because I don’t want to do it any injustice. Let’s just say for the moment that if watching how these two spiritual leaders from different backgrounds, different beliefs, were able to find that they a lot of commonalities, respected each other’s differences, while managing to stay true to themselves , taught their students to do the same while incorporating charity and social justice wasn’t enough….
…..while watching the credits roll, I noticed that Chelsea Clinton was the Executive Producer and one of the founders of the “Of Many Institute for Multifaith Leadership”…I had an aha moment…how bad could her parents be if they raised such an insightful, compassionate , brilliant, intelligent and dynamic young woman and leader in her own rite as Chelsea? Which made me think further- perhaps I had it right all along – Unconditional love is the only thing that truly matters and the 2016 election really did boil down to love versus hatred; or as our illustrious president is also starting to realize, it all boils down to ” good versus evil” or at least that what he was saying as of yesterday.
“This is not a battle between different faiths, different sects or different civilizations,” Mr. Trump said in a cavernous hall filled with heads of state eager to find favor with the new president. “This is a battle between barbaric criminals who seek to obliterate human life and decent people, all in the name of religion, people that want to protect life and want to protect their religion. This is a battle between good and evil.”
And to think that I was watching this documentary during the time that the above mentioned president is addressing an audience of predominantly Muslim leaders in Saudi Arabi, during the first leg of his first foreign trip as president.
I think not– I am still amazed at how God – who is always in control, even we don’t always understand or like what He is allowing in our lives- always gives us what we need even before we realized the real need. I needed to watch this – to experience this.. Of Many…
