Injustice Anywhere Is A Threat to Justice Everywhere…

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King , Jr

Fight On Our Knees

2 Chronicles 20:15

He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.

The threat to our democracy, our freedoms , the freedom to continue to govern as a Republic is real!

I’m primarily addressing true believers in the one true God, believers who truly love God with all their heart, soul and body, and who also love their neighbors as themselves. Those who recognize that we as true believers wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places.

Those believers, the few, the proud, the remnant of the Lion of the tribe of Judah, those believers. I need you stand with me as we continue to fight this battle primarily on our knees and then take it to the streets, the halls of justice, the nations as God Himself our true commander in chief directs our steps. Our strategy comes from Him foremost after spending time in His presence

The rest of you can eavesdrop if you like…

We must resist the temptation to accept the steady stream of pure evil that comes through / out of this current administration as normalcy, as business as usual; otherwise we continue to become complacent – numb.

As a result we go about our daily lives, our daily routines in the midst of pure evil prevailing. If we stay on this trajectory , our democracy will truly be destroyed.

A prime example of this would be the hearing that took place the other day and the ensuing battle that took place between the House Intelligence Committee and the Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, FBI Director Christopher Wray. This is a very clear depiction of the real battle that is taking place not only on the Hill, however, primarily literally behind the scenes ( spiritual warfare) as the battle between good and evil, righteousness vs unrighteousness, the spirit of oppression vs the spirit of liberty / freedom, deception and concealing the truth vs the Holy Spirit leading and guiding us into ALL truth.

Hopefully to the majority of us who can see this on the most basic level as one side ( with fear as being the source) attempting to prevent the whole truth from being revealed by accusing the other side of doing precisely what in fact they are doing – concealing the truth.

One clear way to discern further what is going on behind the scenes- is to apply the very definition of the love test to the matter ( matters) at hand.. love at it’s very basic core is patient and kind. In this case — the absence of patience and kindness is obvious, as displayed by the Republican leaders of the House Intelligence Committee and other Republican conservative leaders is a clear indication that they are acting out of fear, and the direct source of that fear is pure evil ( satan himself).

That’s just one prime example in the midst of several examples from recent events including the timing of Justice Kennedy’s retirement and the rush to replace him before the mid- term elections.

On the surface it does seem like the administration is trying to rebuild the Supreme Court in order to have a more ultra conservative weight going forward ( which is bad enough) ; however, if you dig deeper , you will see that the source of their motivation is steeped in the spirit of oppression, with the goal to rule in an authoritarian manner which goes against the fundamentals of our constitution which is steeped in the spirit of freedom.

2 Corinthians 3:17

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

…and the list can go on and on

Scripture tells us to add action ( work) to our faith. However, I am getting the sense that people for the most part are wanting to substitute faith with marches and rallies rather than add them to our faith which has to be built up and sustained primarily as a result of prayer and spending time in God’s presence. In doing so, as soldiers fighting in His army, not only do we get our marching orders; however, we get a refreshing , the grace needed to push through and forward with joy and vigor.

This battle is not ours, we in ourselves and through our natural resources are not equipped to fight effectively; however this battle belongs to the Lord who equips us ( His soldiers) through and with His grace as a result of prayer. I’m reminded of the passage in the Old Testament where the Lord obliterated the opposing army on behalf of His people as a result of them seeking Him first and relying on His direction and guidance via prayer, fasting and most importantly – praise – first- prior to going into battle!

2 Chronicles 20:15

He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.

However, before we can even get to that point we must first ( for those among us who not already done so)… humble ourselves and pray, seek His face and turn from ( repent) from our wicked ways. As a result not only will He fight our enemies ( within and outside ) ; He will then heal our land. It starts and ends with us as believers.

Let’s continue to fight on our knees before we take it to the streets! 😘🙏🏾🇱🇷

Look Down Over…

“Look down over what you conquered and appreciate what God has bought you through .” Dr. Chadwick Boseman, 2018 Howard University ( May 27,2018)

The above quote is an excerpt from Dr. Chadwick Boseman’s very inspiring speech that he gave during the 2018 Howard University’s commencement.

As I was perusing through recent journal entries ( as part of reflection of recent lessons learned and as a source of encouragement for myself), I stumbled across this quote and the video of the speech (please see link below).

As I was reflecting on some recent national and global events – the situation at the border, the retirement of Justice Kennedy and impending nomination process, the recent ” Peace Summit” with the North Korean leader (Kim Jong -un ) , and the upcoming summit with Russian President ( Vladimir Putin) to name a few. that are affecting us as a nation. The constant barrage of newsreels can be mind blowing, mind spinning and overwhelming at times to say the least, I want to encourage others.

I realize that it’s easy to be tempted to go into despair ; however, I am hoping that you can reach deep and ask God for the grace to push onto victory. In other words , do not grow weary…

Galatians 6:9

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

One month after initially viewing this speech and I’m still inspired! It contains a lot of more meat like the quote above.

It is my prayer that you will use the wisdom and inspiration etched throughout this speech; reflect on all the challenging times and the victories that has already bought us through individually and collectively as a platform to bounce off of and push forward…

Philippians 3:13-14

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. 🙏🏾😘🇱🇷

Division Can Be A Good Thing

The constant thread that was echoed throughout both sects of media ( news media and social media) yesterday was the outcry over the divisiveness that has become embedded within our nation and as a result there is now an outcry for civility.

However…

division can be a good thing if and when it’s done with the right motive.

Matthew 10:34 Christ Brings Division

“Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. In the above passage Jesus is clearly stating His stance on what and who takes priority in our lives. He was clearly doing a sifting of those who chose to follow Him and those who did not. He furthers admonishes us to pick up our cross and follow Him.

Anyone who has read His teachings via the words in written in red within the gospels, knows that Jesus during His time on earth was a righteous radical who fought on behalf of the oppressed everywhere and was therefore opposed by the pompous religious leaders of the day ( whom He rightly called a brood of hypocritical vipers on many occasions).

Yes, I said it- Jesus was and still is a righteous radical who is still fighting on the behalf of the oppressed.

Satan, the real enemy here in all of this chaos would have you to believe that the divisions are based on superficial matters such as the color of our skin, our sexual preference, our church attendance, our religious choices and so forth ; however, I strongly believe that that real issue- the central core of the divisions comes down to righteousness vs. unrighteousness; oppressed versus oppressors.

I have watched and admired Congresswoman Maxine Waters for most of my life. I initially became aware of her outstanding leadership during her tenure as the Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus and have followed and admired her ever since, especially now. Her fight seems to become stronger and her voice for the voiceless becomes louder, as she ( ” with her low I. Q.”) continues to lead and teach the masses on proper parliamentary procedures ( the likes of which our esteemed President seems to be oblivious of), how to use our voice and reclaim our time!

The media has been playing her clip of encouraging people to push back against the Trump administration- which she has been doing since day one and rightly so. Although, I do not agree with the wording of that call to action, I can definitely relate to the sentiment, the passion and frustration behind it.

Watching and praying about the latest debacle that our esteemed President has gotten us into, and wanting to come up with a real viable resolution rather than just talking and reporting on it from various angles for ratings. I was seriously contemplating going over the President’s head by approaching the United Nations Human Rights Commission to intervene on behalf of the families who have been detained and separated at the border, only to find out that he has already pulled us out of the commission. Dang! The frustration and the sense of hopelessness and despair can become real! I get it!!!

On the other hand, CNN Daybreak anchor – Carol Costello interviewed Bishop T D Jakes of the Potter’s House ( many would consider him a religious leader of the day), said the right things and I initially agreed with the words that were coming out of mouth however later through and as a result of prayer began to question the real sentiment and motive. He was the epitome of civility that many are harking for.

However, my question is …does civility mean to lay down and roll over?

Does coming up with the right strategy mean “let’s think up a new way to do the same thing and come up with the same results”?

The contrast between what I saw in the Maxine Waters’s clips and the interview with Jakes is real as well. I saw the division, the line that was drawn between a person passionately speaking on the behalf of the oppressed and willing them to continue to push back at whatever the cost, not to give up, not to lose hope, continue to fight; versus Jakes who was speaking on behalf of the oppressors and wanting the masses to calm down and go home.

Matthew 12:34

Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

I have at times been called a trouble maker, God Himself in the spirit of Matthew 10 has quipped me as an agitator and I’m darn proud of it! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

I therefore stand with Congresswoman Maxine Waters and others who stand up and speak out for the voiceless , the oppressed people everywhere and will also continue to call out the hypocrites, who pimp the oppressed for their own agendas.

What Jesus continues to whisper in my ears, I and I hope others like Congresswoman Maxine Waters will continue to shout from the rooftops.

Matthew 10:27

Jesus Teaches the Fear of God

“Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops.

Yes, Congresswoman Waters, God is indeed on our side!

Warning…Do So At Your Own Risk….

It’s a common fact and general acceptance that ” Big Brother is always watching”😳

And I have often shared that I am well aware that my privacy is not sacred . Several months ago, a friend came straight out and asked me how I dealt with the constant scrutiny, surveillance, and invasion of my privacy. He did say at the time that he thought that I just ignored the cameras and so forth. However, try as I may, it’s not always easy to ignore, and I also shared that my peace for the most part comes from God- knowing that if He’s allowing the constant invasion of my privacy to take place that He must a good reason; and that somehow He’s working it together for me good. (Rom8:28).

In the meantime please know that I am always going to continue to do me regardless and that I am not altering my life , nor compromise my overall peace and wellness in any measure – at anytime for anyone when it comes to this matter.

So please be aware and please take note of this warning … whatever you see ( including me walking around my personal space in the buff ), hear, and/ or read ( yes, including my journal)…you’re doing so at your own risk. I sincerely pray that you don’t get your feelings hurt in the process; however if you do …💁🏾 the owness is on you- you’ve been warned- again! 😘🙏🏾

Stay in My Lane? Hmmm…

I have been hearing so much lately about “staying in your lane” that I began to reflect on the phrase and ask God about the scriptural basis for this phrase if any. My first recollection of hearing this phrase was from a man of God that I was dating around five years ago while I was residing in my beloved Baltimore.

I actually liked the phrase and co-signed on it at the time. Not sure if it was because I was so enamored with my sweetie at the time or was it out of ignorance and/ or both? 💁🏾Fast forward to a couple of months ago and I heard it again from the Rev. Al Sharpton, on the AM Joy show ( after being prompted by Joy Reid herself) in response to a comment that I made in the privacy of my home ( look out for an upcoming post on this topic / issue as well), and a lot of people followed suit in ignorance and started repeating the same phrase.

So please allow me through the grace of God to provide some insight…

From my vantage point, THERE ARE NO LANES!

The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness,

The world and those who dwell therein. Ps.24:1

Only God who knew us before He placed us in our mother’s womb can establish which path we are to take. Our purpose / assignment can involve us as servants of God to be equipped with several gifts to be expressed in various ways at various times during our ministry on earth as God has preordained. (Ps. 139, Eph 2;10) Therefore, for anybody to try to place limits and boundaries on what God has already established and preordained for another individual is in error, at the very least !

🎼 As Israel Houghton sang himself.. no limits, no boundaries…I see increase all around me, stretch forth…🎼

Good news is that it’s never too late to repent and turn from our wicked ways…😘🙏🏾

Healing Garden

Thank You…

…for your prayers, support not only for me however for my family as well – always , especially during these past couple of weeks. I feel like I just returned from an intense trip.

I can sum it in one word – an attack from satan himself

However the Bible does say for us not to give the enemy ( of our souls – satan himself) any space. I gave him a crack via unforgiveness and he busted that door wide open.

Ephesians 4:26-27

“Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.

I try to be conscious of any bitterness, resentment that I may be harboring in order to deal with it head on; through prayer, forgiveness, releasing it to God and then to keep it moving in love.

I was aware of a particular situation years ago, however , so many things were happening during that time, I was simply in survival mode and had to keep pushing forward; there was no time to stop and analyze it at the time. As Jennifer Lewis shared the other day in her interview on the Breakfast Club ” feel your feelings”. ( side note: that interview hit home to me in such a deep way that’s hard for me to admit, will probably hit replay several times before it’s all over, you should check it out if you already haven’t done so.) In all honesty, I probably wasn’t ready to handle it then, not strong enough at the time to handle it and go through the process of forgiveness.

This reinforces my belief that God does allow us to go through some things ( suffer) for the sake of getting stronger in order to gain the strength to heal. I affirm that the strength to heal is a prerequisite to the strength to love as Dr. Martin Luther King described in his book.

So thank you again for your love via prayers, support ( especially for my family ) and patience during this time, it really is coming from a deep heartfelt appreciation!

May God continue to richly bless you all! 🙏🏾😘

It’s Complicated…

We have all heard that God is Love … however, how does the deity of that Love express itself regarding us?

God is the only judge…yet I see us as believers and non- believers alike wanting to step in to judge others especially as it pertains to homosexuals.

It’s complicated when you try to put it into perspective…

On homosexuality… it pains me to a great deal lately when I think about the hateful words and acts done towards homosexuals and/ or the LGBTQ Community as a whole ( Lord knows that I’ve been guilty, just one of the many things that God is dealing with me about). I have loved ones and friends of loved ones within the LGBTQ Community and it is really starting to hurt my heart more and more when I reflect on the pain that they may have experienced from ” church folks in particular” and society in general. My most sincerest prayer to God has been for me to be vessel for God to love through, and yet I find myself guilty of being very critical at numerous times to the LGBTQ Community in particular. My sincere apologies to anyone that I might offended in the past. Please be patient with me- He will always be working on me as long as I’m on this side of Jordan- sincerely trying to understand-

I’ve said for the longest and still affirm that God really does hate the sin but loves the sinner , especially as it pertains to the LGBTQ Community,

Based on my reflection on this scripture over the years, I’ve come to realize now more than ever before that we can never truly know what is in a person’s heart – especially what’s at the core.

We are all aware that for the most part people have two faces – the one that is shown to the world in general ( masked) and the face we have when we think no one’s looking and we’re alone with our innermost thoughts and God.

Psychologists place these two different faces into two distinct components of our personalities – the primary personality and our shadow personality. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/evil-deeds/201204/essential-secrets-psychotherapy-what-is-the-shadow

The movie “It’s Complicated” which starred Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1230414/) touched lightly on this inner wrestling that we all experience to some to varying degrees.

I firmly believe that the shadow personality is more indicative of our real selves, (our inner – beings)- our heart. And this is the component of our total personality that God especially responds to. It’s the nonverbal prayers, pleas, cries that come from the very depths of our beings that causes Him to become more attentive and lean in more. However, we as “mere humans” cannot see this component with our naked eyes – only God can.

One thing that I find ironic regarding this whole thing regarding bashing homosexuals is that there seems to be a segment of the LGBTQ Community that sincerely wants to please God by expressing their love for one another in a committed relationship i.e. marriage- and yet I see that the majority of their critics, accusers, bashers are the ones who are not in a committed relationship such as marriage- that they commit sins that fall under the umbrella of sexual immorality such as fornication, and adultery- yet they think that they can justifiably judge someone else- hmmm!

Romans 3:23

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Some of us view pornography, lie, steal , are corrupt, greedy and so on. All of these are outward offenses that we can pick up in the physical realm, however at the end of the day… when it’s just us and God,

only God can discern and interpret our inner wrestlings.

Like I said – it’s complicated- but not really… simple choose to Love regardless–

Matthew 22:37-40

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” 😘🙏🏾🇱🇷
