L”From the Sanctuary to the Streets-from the Streets to the Sanctuary”

I know that I am late regarding this story ( see below); however I recently came across this story and how it all unfolded; just wanted to glean the real message here.

This story is very powerful and it hits me at the center of my core- it epitomizes what is necessary for the healing our nation to begin.

It begins with PFK Boom who is a community activist in Baltimore (who has been active in the protests regarding Tyrone West who died while in police custody) calling out Pastor Bryant (who had been active in the Baltimore community in the past) as selling out. Pastor Bryant later posted a response. That’s usually where the story ends as it pertains to the “faith community ” interacting with ” the community” and a dispute arises. That gives the ” faith community” the opportunity to throw up their hands and say ” we tried” and that’s it. However, this is different…

…everyone has been talking about ” coming to the table”. That’s it- simply talking- however, these men not only came to the table, but they reconciled , collaborated and hosted a community event on July 4th. Here you have various members of different faiths mixing it up with active community leaders working together because they took ownership of their respective responsibilities. They worked through their differences at the table rather than wait for people that they had long ago stopped waiting  for – elected officials and such to embrace their responsibities to the people who had one time trusted them to supply resolutions.

Hopefully this is not an isolated occurrence of -the sanctuary coming to the streets  and the streets coming to the sanctuary. I firmly believe that  this is the best demonstration of the ” Great Commision” and unity in the community .

There are always so many opportunities to demonstrate this type of collaboration between the ” faith community” and ” the community”. Please pray ask God for the insight and the grace to do your part- utilize your gift(s). To whom much has been given , much is required”. Luke 12:48 But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.

2 Chronicles 7:14-15

if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.

Matthew 28:19-20

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

” How can I teach you if I can’t reach you?”

I say that I’ve been stumbling onto  some stuff lately; however in all honestly I know that’s it’s the hand of God  ordering my steps and guiding me. This is another one of those times!

Having said that – although this video with Tyrese slamming Pastor Jamal Bryant came out a few months ago, we know God to be an ” on time God”.  Therefore, the fact that Tyrese felt so strongly about Pastor Bryant’s comments that he made in reference to Tyrese posing a question pertaining to the direction of gospel music based on his favorite group at the time ( hopefully still his favorite- the group -KlarKent-is talented/gifted- I can see why he likes them so much). The underlying arrogant tone that I believe was a factor regarding his comment is also a major factor in why I also believe that a lot of people are often wounded by church folks in general and therefore turned off from God because of the mispresentation by the ” people of God”.

I can go on regarding that topic alone; however I believe the real message here comes in one of the profound comments  (there’s a few ) that Tyrese makes in this video.
” I strongly recommend to every man/ woman of God- get out of the comfortability of simply going to church and get out here in these streets. How can I teach you if I can’t reach you?”

That touches the core of my heart’s desires. It’s not easy for me to step out my comfort zone in an effort to reach and connect with people – a lot of them hurting, frustrated , confused, disenfranchised and so forth. However, I am choosing more and more to reach deep down and rely on the grace of God to assist me in being a yielded vessel – not perfect but available for His use! I definetly must decrease on a daily basis so that the Christ in me may increase.

It is my prayer that you pray for the grace of God to allow you step out of your comfort zone in order to reach the lost and to avail yourselves for God’s use however He wills.

” The Great Commision is for every believer.” If you have already believed in your heart and confessed with your mouth the Lord Jesus , then regardless of your stage/walk in life this commission is for you.

Ephesians 2:8-10

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Romans 10:8-12

But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.

Matthew 28:18
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.

God’s view Concerning the Poor

Hmmm Interesting!
Just happened to stumble on this and wanted to share….

Leviticus 25:35

Lending to the Poor

“If one of your brethren becomes poor, and falls into poverty among you, then you shall help him, like a stranger or a sojourner, that he may live with you.

Leviticus 25:39
The Law Concerning Slavery

“And if one of your brethren who dwells by you becomes poor, and sells himself to you, you shall not compel him to serve as a slave.

Deuteronomy 15:7-11

Generosity to the Poor

“If there is among you a poor man of your brethren, within any of the gates in your land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother, but you shall open your hand wide to him and willingly lend him sufficient for his need, whatever he needs. Beware lest there be a wicked thought in your heart, saying, ‘The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand,’ and your eye be evil against your poor brother and you give him nothing, and he cry out to the Lord against you, and it become sin among you. You shall surely give to him, and your heart should not be grieved when you give to him, because for this thing the Lord your God will bless you in all your works and in all to which you put your hand. For the poor will never cease from the land; therefore I command you, saying, ‘You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor and your needy, in your land.’

Matthew 26:6-11

The Anointing at Bethany

And when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table. But when His disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? For this fragrant oil might have been sold for much and given to the poor.”

But when Jesus was aware of it, He said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me. For you have the poor with you always, but Me you do not have always. He sat at the table.

This is a mere microcosm of what God’s thoughts and views regarding the poor. The poor, needy and vulnerable are special in the sight of God Himself, yet we – even in the “Body of Christ” in general possess an overall condescending attitude towards them. Our service and ministry to the poor seems to stem from a superficial place of varying degrees of obligation  rather than  a sincere place of agape love. And yet we wonder why this nation is in need of so much healing? Is it any wonder why God is sending missionaries to  US – from the same countries that we used to send missionaries to?

Let’s continue to pray for and with each other on behalf of this nation.

2 Chronicles 7:14-15

if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.

On Religion and Slavery

I was awakened by Lord and happened to stumbled on the following scriptures and then some. Hmmm…

Leviticus 25:39The Law Concerning Slavery
“And if one of your brethren who dwells by you becomes poor, and sells himself to you, you shall not compel him to serve as a slave.

And yet , we did not come to them THEY CAME TO US ,  they did not compel us to slavery- they captured us.

Nehemiah 5:5

Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children; and indeed we are forcing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and some of our daughters have been brought into slavery. It is not in our power to redeem them, for other men have our lands and vineyards.”

Leviticus 26:13
I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that you should not be their slaves;

I have broken the bands of your yoke and made you walk upright.

I watched a video the other week in which Apostle Price made a really good case regarding how special, remarkable people we are because of and despite the obstacles and the oppression that we have to endure and to overcome. Despite the fact that following the signing of The Emancipation Proclamation with the promise of 40 acres and a mule. Despite the fact that that promise was taken away after the assignation of Lincoln. Look how far we’ve come, we started out with nothing and look at us now and what we have been able to accomplish this far!

It’s because of the greatness of God’s power that lies within!

Ephesians 1:19-21

and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.

The same power that got us thus far is the same power that stills lies within each of us; and the same greatness of His power that will continue to lead us!

Get out and vote!
If my people….

These are interesting times indeed…

The following is a post that I actually drafted just PRIOR to the start of the DNC.

I praise God for allowing me to hold onto the little hope that was still within me despite what I was seeing and hearing as of late.

The DNC restored and refilled my hope tank! I hope the your hope tank was refilled as well this week.

I urge you to in addition to continuing to pray to use whatever gift God has given you to help get the vote out!

Please feel free to use the link below to register to vote online if you haven’t already done so. God Bless!😘

What a week!

Better late than never has always been my motto- sad but true. However, I am so glad that we serve an ” On Time God” who sees all and knows all – who despite our shortcoming and imperfections is still in control!
Despite the events that took place during the RNC and the endorsements and other announcements that followed – I thank God for consistently encouraging me to resist the temptation to fear.

I can not thank Him enough for opening up the eyes of my heart and giving me the strength to stand and press on. I can not thank Him enough for restoring joy within. Lord, I thank you!
I am most grateful for God answering my prayers for a message of hope!
As I stated earlier this week, I experienced a rude awakening earlier this week similar to what Apostle Price experienced in the late 90’s; and as a result I am on a similar mission to his mission back then that birthed his series on Race, Religion and Racism. Contrary to popular belief- I do like to do things in decency and in order. I am literally sitting on my hands while I go through the proper process of protocol before (Lord willing) I am able to proceed with my desire launch an online community forum on this important and I believe Holy Spirit sanctioned topic.
Let me just clarify… this is not an attempt to further expand the divisiveness within the Body of Christ and this nation; ON THE CONTRARY- this is my attempt to completely avail myself as ” a vessel” to be used by God to revisit this topic to further shed some light, and invite others to the table. As, I also stated earlier – the healing for our nation as a whole begins with the healing that had to take place within the Body of Christ.
God has been talking and showing us all along. There is a connection between statements that have been made by Donald Trump and his followers ; code words that have been used throughout as an action call to promote hate – code words such ” white evangelicals, Americans, blue lives matter”, – to name a few. This in addition to endorsements by leaders in the ” white evangelical community”, ” white evangelical”- the first and primary code word that raised an internal flag that eventually led me to my awakening.
As the Body of believers and as a nation I have to urge you to resist the temptation to fear, lay down, roll over and continue to sleep!
It’s time to Arise! Awake and put on strength. The Glory of God rests on you. He’s shining His light in the midst of the darkness- the violence, the terror, the lies and divisiveness that is occurring within our nation and abroad.
The answer, the healing for our nation lies within each believer- stir yourself up- stir up the gifts within! Humble yourself and pray, seek God with ALL of your heart, REPENT- turn from your wicked ways, THEN AND ONLY THEN – can we bring our gifts to the table for the Master’s use.
In the meantime as we’re humbling ourselves, being real with God and each other, praying, seeking God with all of our hearts so that we can turn from our wicked ways…
I am cautiously optimistic regarding the upcoming DNC to be held in Philly this week.
So ” The Donald” says that a vote for anyone other than himself is a vote for Hilary. As an independent voter and as a believer – I have always tried to ” vote the Bible” which has led me to lean and vote conservative for over 30 years- for the first time in all these years I am seriously leaning towards voting Democratic. As I reflect on “voting the Bible” – I find myself mediating in 1Cor13 ( the love chapter). Although I find myself disagreeing with a lot of the issues that the Democrats stand for- a lot of their policies go against a lot of my core values. However, as a believer- unconditional love is and always has to resonate and be demonstrated in and through my life on a consistent basis.
Having said that- I am not quite ready jump in to the Democratic pool with both feet – so I am also thinking about writing someone’s name on the ballot ( i.e. Marco Rubio or myself even!) – after all as Donald Trump has said in numerous occasions – ” a vote for any one other than me is a vote for Hilary”.
In all seriousness, this election is very crucial for times such as these. I urge you therefore to pray earnestly and listen attentively to the speeches that you will hear this week.
Lastly, if you haven’t already registered to vote, I urge you to do so. So may people have fought, struggled and lost their lives to give us this right to vote and to let our voices be heard. Please ensure that you photo identification and such are valid and current ( talking to myself on this one myself) – we don’t want to give the devil any space to keep us from exercising our right to vote.
Let’s pray – Lord God we praise, we glorify you, we give you all the honor and praises that are due your name. We thank you Lord for opening the eyes of our hearts as we seek your wisdom and guidance regarding this nation. We thank you for touching every heart with your grace and love. We thank you Lord for supplying every need, we thank you Lord for healing, deliverance and provision. We thank you for doing exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask or think.
We seal this prayer with Blood of Jesus!

Freddie Gray case: Charges against three remaining officers dropped

I echo the entire sentiments of Prosector Mosby. I commend her and her staff for taking the high road throughout despite the opposition that they must’ve at every turn. Job well done – sentiments were well expressed.
My prayers continue to be with the family of Freddie Gray, and all the others who have lost their lives ( those that we know of and those we don’t) to this violence.
I also am requesting the citizens of my beloved Baltimore to please follow the sentiments of First Lady Michelle Obama in her speech the other night– ” when they take the low road, we take the high road”. Please resist the temptation to hit the streets with looting and such, we are better than that. Please don’t give the nay Sayers any credence to referring us as thugs and savages. We as a people have endured so much and have overcome so many obstacles before by taking the high road- we can continue to shine by doing so today, tomorrow and the next day and so forth until true justice is rendered. Stay strong and hopeful as we press on.

We have to fix this and fix this now.

Healing has to take place in the church before it can take place in the land…

My heart is heavy and goes out to ALL the families that have lost loved ones as a result of the violence that taken place here and abroad.

2 Chronicles 7:14-15

if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.

As a young child my mom would sit the three of us down around the tv to watch the Billy Graham crusades together. His crusades would usually broadcast on either a Friday and/or Saturday night and there were always prime time so that meant that we would have to miss our favorite shows. I would always start out watching his crusades with much reluctance however, Rev. Graham had such a presence, charisma and a sense of sincerity about him that would not only capture the thousands upon thousands that would gather in the stadiums, parks, arenas and such but he would eventually capture my attention as well. I remember being in awe as I would see so many people leaving there seats and walk to the front to pray with Rev Graham and gave their hearts to God. When I would watch Rev. Billy Graham I saw someone who seemed liked he just wanted to sincerely win souls for Christ regardless of the ethnic nor the socio-economic background. So naturally I was excited when his son Franklin came on the scene. I assumed that he would follow in his father’s footsteps with the a similar charisma, presence, passion and strong convictions.

I have a step brother who taught me to listen to what people are NOT saying rather that what they were actually saying. So the other day as I was watching a video of Franklin Graham’s FB live event, what resonated the most was that I did not hear prayers nor empathy for the black lives that have been taken from our community. I heard prayers and empathy for the police officers that have lost their lives. I also heard a similar condescending tone as to the others who have made attempts to justify the killings of our black men and women by portraying them as thugs and criminals with a sense of entitlement. I sense an underlying tone of divisiveness.
As I continue to reflect on this video and everything that is occurring throughout the world today, especially here in the US, I can’t help but think that this underlying tone of racism that I have been picking up within the Body of Christ  can also be tied into Trump’s success in securing the Republican nomination.
Is it a wonder then that we are where we are as a nation?
The divisiveness within the Body of Christ has to stop first before we can begin to usher in healing to our nation.

Answer lies in….

1. Humbling ourselves

2. Seeking God

3. Praying to God and

4. Turning from our wicked ways

Our wicked ways originates from  fear on both sides

  • Whites- afraid of losing their standing/control within this nation
  • Blacks- afraid for our lives, the lives especially of our sons, brothers, fathers, husbands, boyfriends, uncles, cousins , nephews- who have always been targets ; however especially now.

God’s command to all of us is simply FEAR NOT!

Fear torments and robs of us all of our peace, strength , wisdom and enlightenment.

1 John 4:18

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

God is the answer and has the answer to all of our problems, frustrations and challenges that we face today. However, fear blocks and blinds us to the answers and the insights that lie within us individually and collectively.

The enemy is not each other but it is satan himself who is working through fear. Where the spirit of the Lord is there is Liberty – true freedom comes first within before it can be experienced without!

There is also frustration on both sides.

That however, is where I see the similarities end…because among the poor as a whole- I also sense fear, despair, frustration and hopelessness.

There is hope!

God is admonishing us to wake up and put on strength. He is saying that we have been on this mountain ( mountain of fear, oppression, hopelessness, helplessness, poverty and despair) too long- it time to take action by gathering at the table after we have humbled ourselves, prayed, sought His face and turned from our wicked ways( mindsets and actions that stem out of fear).

Isaiah 52:1-3

Chapter 52

God Redeems Jerusalem

Awake, awake!

Put on your strength, O Zion;

Put on your beautiful garments,

O Jerusalem, the holy city!

For the uncircumcised and the unclean

Shall no longer come to you.

Shake yourself from the dust, arise;

Sit down, O Jerusalem!

Loose yourself from the bonds of your neck,

O captive daughter of Zion!

For thus says the Lord:

“You have sold yourselves for nothing,

And you shall be redeemed without money.”

God indeed loves justice! Prayer is good however we as believers have to do our part- ” faith without works is dead”. Each of us has a part of the answer to how best bring healing to our nation and abroad. Our individual purposes- i.e. our life’s assignments, gifts, calling are all crucial components to bring to the table as we work towards coming together as One Body In Christ and ushering forth to the nation and abroad.

Jesus Himself prayed that God Himself would deliver us from the evil one, that we as believers and other believers that would come together as one as a result of being sanctified through truth.

John 17:15-22

I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.

Jesus Prays for All Believers

“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:

As stated earlier this week on a video that I posted – Apostle Fred K C Price did an excellent exhaustive teaching on this topic/ issue of Race, Religion and Racism in 1998 ( for 72 weeks) – well over 20 years ago and yet here we are – where God is having us to revisit this topic/issue within the Body of Christ.

So again, I invite you to join me on this journey of revisiting this issue, availing ourselves to be used by God to bring forth His healing.

Deuteronomy 1:6-8

“The Lord our God spoke to us in Horeb, saying: ‘You have dwelt long enough at this mountain. Turn and take your journey, and go to the mountains of the Amorites, to all the neighboring places in the plain, in the mountains and in the lowland, in the South and on the seacoast, to the land of the Canaanites and to Lebanon, as far as the great river, the River Euphrates. See, I have set the land before you; go in and possess the land which the Lord swore to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—to give to them and their descendants after them.’
Peace, love and blessings! 😘
